Milwaukee Libraries: East Branch

The East Branch of the Milwaukee Public Library system, on North Avenue, is a real beauty of a library and community space. It has a large community room, a large seating/work area flooded with window light, a large, airy sort of feel, and is one heck of a change from what it used to be.

The East Branch had formerly been a small, one-story building until two years ago when it was tore down and replaced with a multi-story, multi-use building – library and retail space on the first floor, apartments on the upper floors. I visited when it opened – it was a busy, exciting day – and it seems the neighborhood’s affection for the space has not diminished!
